may 29th 2014, dr. clark. abt, professor of brandeis university and adjunct professor of harvard university, gave a lecture entitled on “outstanding progress on environmental management in massachusetts” at the school of public policy and management of tsinghua university. the event was held by cideg (the center for industrial development and environmental governance). dr. dai yixin, assistant professor of sppm at tsinghua university, hosted the event.

prof. abt firstly elaborated their successful experience on environmental management in massachusetts. the regulations and policies that the state government of massachusetts adopted includes two aspects: promotion of relevant legislation regarding investment and major clean energy programs. the former aspect is composed of green communities act, global warming solution act and act relative to competitively priced electricity; the latter one includes energy efficiency, green communities, renewable energy and several other initiatives.

after the lecture, prof. abt shared his actual experiences with participating students to conduct in-depth communication and discussions on environmental management practices in us and its implications for china. nearly thirty students coming from tsinghua university, research center for eco-environmental sciences rcees of the chinese academy of sciences and other education and research institutions participated in the symposium.
