on the afternoon of june 14th, ms.beate trankmann, resident representative of the united nations development programme (undp) in china, accompanied by assistant resident representative zhang wei, and their delegation, visited the school of public policy and management of tsinghua university (hereinafter as "tsinghua sppm"). on behalf of undp, trankmann signed a memorandum of understanding (mou) with zhu xufeng, the dean of tsinghua sppm. both sides will deepen their cooperation in areas such as the localization of the sustainable development goals (sdgs), scientific research collaboration, academic exchanges, talent cultivation, and promoting youth participation. yin chengzhi, associate dean of tsinghua sppm, shi shuting, deputy director of the international cooperation and exchange office of tsinghua sppm, as well as zhang chengcheng, yang ming, and farah mubarak from the undp representative office in china, attended the signing ceremony.

zhu xufeng, on behalf of tsinghua sppm, warmly welcomed the delegation led by beate trankmann. he noted that the school and undp signed their first memorandum of cooperation in 2017, and since then, the two sides have engaged in close cooperation in various fields, including talent cultivation, climate change, green development, poverty alleviation, and the human development index. he expressed his anticipation of facilitating deeper cooperation with undp and its china office to jointly contribute to accelerating progress on the sdgs.

after the signing ceremony, ms. beate trankmann delivered a keynote speech to faculty and students on the topic of "low-carbon transition and china's vital role." over 20 faculty members and students from nearly 10 countries attended the lecture. the lecture was moderated by yin chengzhi.
ms. beate trankmann first reviewed the global implementation and progress of the sdgs since 2015 and outlined the direction for achieving the goals from now until 2050. she presented a detailed analysis of china's initiatives in promoting a low-carbon economy. this included aspects like undp-china cooperation on biodiversity protection, sdg financing, efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and strategies for fostering sustainable development. additionally, she highlighted the crucial role that china plays in the global low-carbon transition. the opportunities and challenges of china's low-carbon development, as presented by ms. beate trankmann, sparked profound reflection among the faculty and students.
