the inaugural ceremony of the think tank research center was successfully held at the school of public policy and management (sppm) on april 12, 2018. the center will conduct research on the development of a new type of think tanks with chinese characteristics, the development model of foreign think tanks, and the appraisal of global think tanks. the event was hosted by professor yang yongheng, associate dean of the sppm. over 70 guests attended the ceremony.
professor su jun, chairman of the board of directors of the ttrc, said that the establishment of the center conformed to china's efforts to modernize its system and capacity for governance. he stated that modernization requires more qualified think tanks to contribute progressive ideas and organizations that will conduct relevant studies to assess and guide the development such think tanks in the future.

according to professor yang yongheng, the ttrc will utilize tsinghua university's intellectual resources and research capacity to offer expert advice on the development of chinese think tanks so that they can better contribute to sound decision-making.
as a part of the inaugural ceremony, professor zhu xufeng, on behalf of his research team, released 2017 big data report on think tanks, which consists of two parts: “big data report on chinese think tanks” and “big data report on global think tanks.” the report marks the first time a chinese research institute evaluated and ranked think tanks based on big data evaluation methods and social data resources.
